I will start this post with a statement my daughter rather adamantly said last night “Mom, next time can you visit a chocolate orchard?”  Funny isn’t she…however justly prompted by our week of apple tasting.  It all started last weekend  when we piled in vehicle and made a trip to the festival at the apple orchard.  After walking through the orchard, although most people were taking their cars; we finally settled on picking two kinds of apples:  Mutsu & Cortland.    We found the Mutsu to be very sweet and the Cortland to have a very prominent “apple” taste.  I know one would hope that an apple would taste like an apple but really that’s the best description my brain wraps around.  We also picked up a gallon of cider of which I have to say was the best and sweetest cider I have ever had.  Seeing as how we had apples everywhere I decided to reach out of my recipe realm and head to Pinterest.  The result was some very tasty sweets and we are now on apple overload.  The first thing I made was an Apple Cream Cheese Bundt Cake with Caramel Pecan Frosting..recipe can be found at:  http://www.jamhands.net/2012/09/apple-and-cream-cheese-bundt-cake-with.html   The cake went over very well and although had several steps turned out quite tasty.

We then moved on to Mini Apple Pies.  Now I can’t say this was a test dessert as I have made these several times.  This is one of those desserts that I found on Pinterest and have continued to use as well as added to my favorite recipe box!  You can find the recipe here :http://www.littlebitfunky.com/2011/10/what-i-made-for-monday.html  Of course these were gobbled up quickly!

Bowl of apples staring at me and two desserts down I decided to go for one of our tried and true favorites that although called Taffy Apple Salad it tastes more like a Caramel Apple and very much like dessert!  It simple and easy and hard to stay out of.  You can find the recipe for Caramel Apple Salad as we call it right here on Bestfoodies:  http://bestfoodies.com/blog/2011/10/05/caramel-apple-salad/

Once again with treats all gone I found myself and those apples in a challenge so I head back to Pinterest and found a recipe for an Caramel Apple Layer Cake with Apple Cider Frosting.  This cake was actually very easy to make and it went over well.  However my family decided they would like half as much icing.  You can find the recipe for this cake here:  http://www.ahintofhoney.com/2009/10/caramel-apple-layer-cake-with-apple.html

Although my daughter stated last night that if I made one more apple dish she just didn’t think she could handle it I find myself needing to make our tried and true favorite apple cake as well as some good old-fashioned fried apples.  Our favorite apple cake recipe can also be found here on Best Foodies here: http://bestfoodies.com/blog/2011/04/23/apple-cake-memories/

As I was writing this post my friend Jenny sent me a text that she and her little boy Ethan had fun making my apple cake (above) the night before and that it was yummy….of course I asked for a photo of the occasion.  Here is Ethan proudly displaying his cake before it goes in the oven:

There are many many more great apple recipes on Pinterest and I have several on my Dessert Decadance Board which you can take a look at here:  http://pinterest.com/bestfoodies/dessert-decadence/

All this being said, I guess I better whip up a few chocolate items this week. However the whole chocolate tree thing won’t be factored in… I think I will just turn to Hershey or Nestle and  get some yummies out a bit quicker!
